Los 15 mejores álbumes de 2011

La mayoría de las producciones que esperamos durante todo el año ya fueron presentadas. En esta oportunidad hablaré de, lo que hasta ahora, me pareció lo más interesante del 2011. Lógicamente, hay cosas que quedaron afuera porque 15 álbumes es muy poco pero, vamos, tampoco fue el año con mayor cantidad de lanzamientos relevantes de la historia. Traté, además y siempre dentro del ámbito musical que nos compete, elegir cosas de diferentes estilos. Esperemos que les guste la selección, conozcan cosas nuevas y, además, me digan qué es lo que faltó y sobró en los comentarios.

The Vaccines – What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?

El rock de guitarras necesita una renovación y The Vaccines, con sólo una producción, hizo darnos cuenta por qué. Sin irme por las ramas, The King of Limbs es una producción típica de Radiohead y por típica me refiero a alternativa. Ellos tratan de innovar y, guste o no, siempre salen con cosas que nos deleitan. No sólo desde lo musical, que ya no tienen que demostrar nada, sino también desde lo visual. Sino recuerden el video de “Lotus Flower”.

Friendy Fires – Pala

Si hay una banda que va a hacerte bailar como pocas, esa es Friendly Fires. La agrupación, después de un muy exitoso primer disco, tenía que probar que habían llegado para quedarse y que desde donde había salido la primera, había talento y no suerte. Con Pala lo probaron y con temas con un ritmo espectacular, letras con coros lindísimos y sonidos únicos hicieron un disco que es de lo más lindo que se hizo durante lo que va del 2011.

The Naked And Famous – Passive Me, Aggressive You

Si te gusta el indie el álbum que lanzó The Naked and Famous probablemente te habrá parecido una pepita de oro en un mar de asquerosos discos de este género que se lanzaron durante el 2011. Un sonido renovador, post adolescente con lírica relacionada al amor y las fiestas hizo que temas como “Punching in a Dream”, “The Source”, “Young Blood” o “No Way” convirtieran a Passive Me, Aggressive You en una de las mejores producciones y, al menos, con una propuesta diferente.

Alex Turner – Submarine EP

Alex Turner llegó a la música para cambiar las cosas y, de eso, no hay absolutamente ninguna duda. Este muchacho que sólo tiene 25 años ya fundó dos bandas (Arctic Monkeys y The Last Shadow Puppets) e hizo un trabajo solista que lanzó este año para la película Submarine. Fleet Foxes nació como agrupación hace muy poco y su primer disco lo lanzaron en el 2008. Rompieron todo. Un estilo folk mezclado con un indie que hacía mucho que no escuchábamos. Estos hombres de Seattle, tierra de Kurt Cobain, lanzaron en el 2011 Helplessness Blues y, con los mismos sonidos que nos enamoraron en un primer momento, volvieron por más. Lamentablemente no me parece una obra tan interesante como la primera y le faltó un poco, pero no significa que no sea preciosa. “Montezuma”, “Sim Sala Bim”, Helplessness Blues” o “Someone You’d Admire” son una muestra de por qué lo digo.

Bon Iver – Bon Iver

Bon Iver y su producción homónima no podía faltar. No es de los álbumes que te levantarán el humor pero vamos, tampoco lo eran los de Nirvana. Este disco, oscuro, triste y melancólico te hará sentir la nada misma y, si le prestas determinada atención a las letras, una verdadera angustia. La música no es sólo felicidad y eso está clarísimo. Bon Iver es un artista que hace una música de la hostia y pocos, en la actualidad la menos, pueden igualarlo.

Elbow – build a rocket boys!

Elbow es una de las bandas progresivas más relevantes de la actualidad y tiene en sus hombros producciones que, probablemente, han hecho emocionar a más de uno. Build a rocket boys! es un viaje en el cohete que ellos mismos construyeron a través de la música. Los hará volar, disfrutar, escuchar una lírica con temas preciosos como “lippy kids” y, además, una demostración clarísima que son uno de los grupos más importantes que existen en la música actual. Metronomy viene haciendo un pop electrónico espectacular desde su primera producción. Esta, llamada The English Riviera, no es una excepción y estos londinenses están cambiando las reglas del juego y nos están mostrando que se puede mezclar lo que sea para hacer bailar a la gente. Temas como “We Broke Free”, “The Look”, “Loving Arm” o “Love Underlined” nos demuestran por qué están donde están.

Black Lips – Arabia Mountain

¿Les gusta la psicodelia? ¿Les gusta el rock lo-fi? ¿Les gustan las distorciones? ¿El garage? ¿Y un poco de punk? Entonces les gustan los Black Lips que, con 6 producciones bajo su brazo, no paran de lanzar cosas interesantes.
