Bonnie “Prince” Billy muestra el lado oscuro en su nuevo video

Bonnie “Prince” Billy y los primeros detalles de su nuevo lanzamiento, el cual llevará por título Wolfroy Goes to Town y que será publicado el 31 de octubre. La banda ya había presentado un extracto de esta nueva placa en vivo.

Su nombre es “Quail And Dumplings” y, aunque en vivo suena como un tema country de aura triste/poco siniestra, su versión en disco realmente mejora mucho la primera impresión pues, aunque en esencia tiene la misma instrumentación, la vibra de la melodía y la mezcla la hacen sonar mucho más ligera, casi de playa, tanto que en algún punto de hecho te encuentras esperando que salga un ukelele en cualquier momento.

Tal vez por ello el músico, o el director de su nuevo vídeo Benjamin Berman, decidieron darle a la canción un tratamiento visual muy particular y playero, en el que podemos ver al cantante como un naufrago que es encontrado por una tribu viviendo en una isla luego de sobrevivir al tempestuoso mar. Casi de inmediato, nuestro héroe entabla relación con los habitantes de dicha isla y se interesa en conocer de cerca sus costumbres y su forma de vida. Sin embargo, al final es momento de regresar a casa, no sin antes obtener una no muy agradable sorpresa.

El video, en el que aparecen Nina Nastasia y Kennan Gudjonsson, fue grabado con un tratamiento granuloso y de suaves tonos que complementa muy bien la historia, no así su tétrico final. Francamente, a mí me gustó mucho más la canción en su versión de estudio, aunque no estoy muy segura sobre cómo me siento respecto a su video.
